It was a hot morning, very very light easterly wind, air temperature 32 degrees and sea temperature 27 degrees, tho the conditions were perfect, all my current spearfishing buddies were busy working, so i decided to go by myself... i got out of bed and went in the sea near the blue grotto cave in the town of Zurrieq in the south side of the island of malta and started finning to a reef that i was certain i was gonna spear some pelagics, loads of small fish on the edge of the reef, so i went down, my Omer 106 loaded with a 19mm circular and a 6.3mm shaft, the dept was around the 26-28 meter mark, and immediately a baracuda came, i shot and stunned it, and then the amberjacks came, first one and the shoal stayed underneath, shot my second, the a shoal of smaller ones came and i shot 4 (2 of them in one shot), then a grouper came to inspect why all this smell of blood and it helped make my total weight reach 14.8kgs!!! to my surprise, a good friend of mine who i used to spearfish with him in the 90's came up to me with his boat and congratulated me for my amazing catch and to make this day even luckier, he said i have my new camera, let me take you a picture and i will email you... the biggest amberjack weighed 3.8ks, the smaller one 2.7,the cuda 3.3, the grouper 2.6, the smaller amberjacks were all around 600g each.
